Day 12 - Porto, Lisboa: Scenic Train Ride, Scenic/Busy/Touristy Lisbon Walk, Pizza & Beer

I woke up to my alarm this morning only to then hit snooze a few times. Decided I didn't want to bother with free Porto hotel breakfast and would rather snooze some more, then pack and get on with the journey. Got my luggage all situated. Two downhill blocks and around a corner to the metro station. 4 stops to the train station. 2nd class train ticket purchased. Waited maybe 25 minutes for the train.

The train was fairly full but I had two seats to myself for the most part on the 3 hour journey south through Portugal.

The train ride was nice -- got see a lot of the countryside of coastal Portugal, passed through some towns that looked like the 21st century hadn't touched them (and probably even most of the 20th century). Took advantage of the free wifi a bit on my laptop, and also dozed a bit. Was in Lisbon before I knew it.

Transfer to Lisbon metro was easy and before I knew it I was at my subway stop for my hotel. A few uphill blocks with my luggage notwithstanding, I arrived at my accommodations and got checked in.

Once I got settled in I decided an afternoon stroll was in order -- I got a city map from the front desk and from what I could tell the long wide Avenida I was just off of led down to the centro of the city, and from there, the waterfront.

It was a nice walk, but once I got to the center of the old part of the city -- culture shock! Haha. So many blatant tourists, and so many blatant folk trying to upsell the tourists! Such a difference from my time in Porto, where it felt like city folk were the norm and tourists were the anomaly... as opposed to vice versa.

Anyway, an Italian place right on the waterfront caught my eye and the pizza craving kicked in... I had to have some pizza. Pizza and beer.

And some more of the initial Lisbon scenery:

Finally meandered back to the hotel room to come up with more concrete plans for what my Lisboa days would consist of... as well as plan for how I am going to get back to Spain!
