Day 21 - Granada: Alhambra, Paella (Finally), Buying Stuff (a.k.a. Shopping), Sunset at El Mirador de San Nicolas, Semana Santa

Woke up early this AM for the big day at the Alhambra. Got myself showered and out of the hotel and headed just up my street to enter the grounds of the Alhambra. Continued up, up and up some more to the main entrance. Got in and began touring.

4.5 hours later and 250+ pics later, I can concretely affirm that the Alhambra is awesome.

The Alcazaba area was pretty easily my favorite. The views of Granada, the Albaicin across the way, of the Sierra Nevada mountains in the backdrop (the ORIGINAL ones, this Northern Californian native acknowledges...) -- the views were spectacular. Also, El Generalife was great too. In fact, all of it was great.

Afterwards I headed back to the hotel for a shower. Went back out and had nice late lunch at one of the restaurants that's below the hill that the Alhambra is on. Touristy it was (I sat in the outdoor patio area next to the creek that faced the Alhambra), but necessary. I also (in my election to order from the prie fixe menu of the day) had paella for the first time on this trip. WTF, you might ask? Correct, I've just not been that into having paella. It was pretty good though. Had some mediocre pork with garlic dish for the second course. Got my cafe con leche afterwards as a nice pick-me-up.

Did some souvenir shopping around the centro afterwards. Also stopped in H&M to see if I could maybe buy some more clothes for the final leg of this trip. Ended up just buying socks and chonies to get me through another few days, haha.

Back to the room again, and headed back out so that I could take in the sunset from El Mirador de San Nicolas in El Albaicin (as such was recommended to me). It was a nice sight to take in, indeed.

I was going to post the night's taping of a paso -- right at the intersection of Gran Via de Colon and Calle Reyes Catolicos (one of the main intersections in the center of town). However blogspot is not allowing it -- probably because the video file is too large (it's over a minute long). Will try and upload it to YouTube or something later.i
